Grace Lau Blake of Koloa, Kaua’i, died at Pali Momi Hospital, on June 21, 2001 at the age of 82.
Born in Honolulu, O’ahu on August 18, 1918, she was a retired school teacher.
Her highlights are: Joy Luck Club – Kaua’i Chapter; County of Kaua’i Office of Elderly Affairs Policy Advisory Council and RSVP Advisory Council; Koloa Community Association – Board Member; Koloa Senior Center; Na Kupuna Council; Hawaii Retired Teachers Association; Hawaii Government Employees Association; Kauai Chinese Heritage Society; Kauai Historical Society, Kauai Museum; University Extension – Kukuiolono Chapter; American Legion Auxiliary – Disabled American Veterans; Sunday School Teacher – Koloa Assembly of God; Traveled to Laos, Japan, Hong Kong, China, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Nepal, Katmandu, Kashmir, Teheran, Kuala Lumpur, Sri Lanka, Thailand, New Zealand, Egypt, and Israel.
She survived by two sons; Hanale (Yvette) Blake; Ted (Tatiana) Blake; one daughter: Pattie (George) Silva Jr.; two brothers: Tommy Lau, Chubie Lau; three sisters: Lucille Wong; Marjorie Nakahodo; Mae McGinnis, 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, June 30, at the Koloa Christian Church, (White Church) from 9 a.m. Services to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at the Pa’ana’au Cemetery in Koloa.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kaua’i Mortuary.
Yasue Watanabe
Yasue “Kut” Watanabe, of Waimea, Kauai, died at home on June 27, 2001, at the age of 76.
Born in Waimea, Kauai on Jan. 26, 1925, she was a retired Office Clerk with Bank of America.
She is survived by: five sisters: Tomie Watanabe, Satoe Oyama, and Elsie Hegwood, all of Waimea, Kauai; Suzue (Ken) Hashimoto of Honolulu, O’ahu and Naoe (George) Pascua of Koloa, Kauai; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family at 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 1, at the Waimea United Church of Christ; service officiated by Pastor Don Wills will begin at 5 p.m. Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted.
