Kaua’i County Police detectives are continuing their investigation into the death of a newborn baby Monday.
The 21-year-old woman authorities believe is the mother of the child remains under observation at Wilcox Memorial Hospital, where she was brought by paramedics Monday. During an examination, doctors discovered she had recently given birth.
Police were dispatched to her residence, where a search turned up the dead baby.
An autopsy was ordered to determine the cause of death. Chief investigator Mel Morris said Wednesday afternoon that tests had not been completed.
