Juan Rapada
Juan (Oapo) Raping Rapada of Waimea, Kaua’i, died at his residence on March 13, 2001, at the age of 97.
Born May 19, 1903, in Santa Catalina, Philippines, he was a retired commercial fisherman for Akita Enterprises aka “The Blue Fin,” a gifted craftsman and a self-taught musician, who played the mandolin and violin.
He is survived by his one daughter: Loretta Agosto, of Waimea; 7 grandchildren: Robert Agosto of Waimea, Ben (Anna) Agosto of Honolulu, Kathryn (Dennis) Yamamoto of California, Elizabeth (George) Kawamura of Kalaheo, Jane (Rodney) Williams of Washington, Lorna (Tommy) Takeyama of Honolulu, Lesley (Michael) Castillo of Puhi and 16 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, March 23, at Holy Cross Catholic Church from 12 noon. Mass to be celebrated at 2 p.m. by Father Keahi. Burial to follow at the Lihu’e Public Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kaua’i Mortuary.
Clementina MacAdam
Clementina “Tina” MacAdam, longtime resident of Ha’ena, died at home on Saturday, March 17, 200, at the age of 64, after a long struggle with cancer.
Originally from Violet, Tex., she was born on July 19, 1936. She was a Navy wife, married to U.S. Navy Commander (Retired), William F. MacAdam and having assignments in various places in the world, one of which was at Barking Sands, Kaua’i. The MacAdams retired from the Navy in 1979 choosing to settle on Kaua’i’s north shore in Ha’ena.
Tina is survived by her husband; two sons; Jeffery (Constance) MacAdam of El Sobrante, Calif., and Stuart (Christine) MacAdam of Singapore; and three grandchildren. She is also survived by five sisters: Dorothy Corcoran of Corpus Christi, Rosa Lee Hoelscher and Floy Lee Hoelscher of Violet, Tex., Mary Johnson of Jacksonville, Fla., and Gerri Fredette of New River, Arizona; and six brothers: William, Francis, and Raymond Hoelscher of Corpus Christi, Tex., Jerome nd Edgard Hoelscher of Violet, Tex., and Richard Hoelscher of La Grange, Tex.
A memorial service will be held at St. Williams Catholic Church in Hanalei on Thursday, March 22. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 10:30 a.m. A requiem Mass will be celebrated beginning at 11 a.m. with Father Dan Seccomb officiating. Casual attire is suggested.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to Kaua’i Hospice in Tina’s name. Interment to take place for family only.
