After rain postponed play for a week, the Kaua’i Senior Softball League got back into action Saturday, March 3, at the Kapa’a Ball Park.
In the first contest of the day, the Lihu’e A’s improved their record to 2-0 with a 7-3 victory over East Kaua’i. Joe Brun went the distance for his first win, while Walter Silva picked up the loss to even his record at 1-1. That’s also East Kaua’i season mark now.
Lihu’e’s Glen Akina and Tomo Hiranaka brought out their big sticks, each pounding a home run for their team. Roy Running and Ed Bales each recorded three hits.
Damien Victorino and Sonny Lubuguen got two hits each for East Kaua’i.
West Kaua’i 25, K-Makules 9
In the second game, West Kaua’i slammed the K-Makules 25-9. Joe Silva picked up the win; Dado Paieste got the loss for the K-Makules.
West Kaua’i’s Frank Bukoski and Danny Manus each nailed a home run on three hits a piece. “Brudda” Rittmeister banged out four hits.
For the K-Makules, Doric Remata and John Tabanair got three hits while Buddy Kanoa and Ben Pestador nailed a pair each.
Rookies 22, Kawaihau 7
The Rookies made it two wins in a row by upending Kawaihau. Wally Sonada worked on the mound for the win while Ken Tamashino and Teddy Oaligdid threw for Kawaihau. Tamashiro earned the loss.
Hank Nishikawa led all batters with a 5-for-5 performance. Dickie Sialana, Archie Fontanill and Stan Dela Cruz each had three hits. For the Rookies, Terry Pantohan went 4-for-4. Tamashiro, Don Boro, Fred Koettler and Bill Sasan all had two hits.
Next week’s games will be played at Wailua Field. Kawaihau faces K-Makules at 9:15 a.m. Then it’s West Kaua’i meeting East Kaua’i in the second game. The final contest features two 2-0 teams when The Rookies face the Lihu’e A’s.
