Three of Hawai’i’s top junior golfers will get a chance to travel to Orlando, Fla.
And a Kaua’i contingent could be included.
The Hawai’i State Junior Golf Association (HSJGA), along with several sponsors, is bringing the “Drive, Chip and Putt” skills competition to Hawai’i. The event is open to children 12-and-under, and will be held at three qualifying locations throughout the islands. At each location, a total of 120 boys and girls may compete against each other in three age groups: 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12.
Three juniors in each age group — a total of nine — from each qualifier will advance to the state finals. The winner in each age group will receive a trip to Walt Disney World to compete in the national final, November 9-11.
Poipu Bay Resort will serve as one of the qualifying locations. This will give juniors from Kaua’i the chance to easily access this competition. The qualifier is set for Thursday, March 22, at 3:30 p.m. The state finals will be Saturday, March 24, at Ko Olina Golf Club at 4:30 p.m.
The field at each qualifier is limited to a total of 120 juniors in the three age groups combined. The winners from the Poipu Bay qualifier will receive round-trip inter-island airfare to participate in the finals at Ko Olina, on Oahu.
“The Hawai’i State Junior Golf Association is thrilled to have the opportunity to work with The Golf Channel to bring this event to Hawai’i,” said Mary Bea Porter-King, a Kaua’i resident, and president of the HSJGA. “This is a wonderful opportunity for Hawai’i’s juniors and to showcase the beauty of Hawai’i.”
