Mari Punzal, 11, was a member of the National Soccer Academy (NSA) team on Oahu that captured the Hawai’i Championship State Cup for girls under 12 over the President’s Day weekend. Mari, a starting forward for the NSA Magic ’89, scored two goals, and assisted in three to help her team to the number one spot. With strong defense, the Magic ’89 posted victories of 5-0, 8-0, 2-0 and 4-1 in the tournament.
An honor student at Kapa’a Middle School, Mari, who is the daughter of Eugene and Laurie, often travels to Honolulu for practices, games and tournament play.
Upcoming for the NSA Magic ’89 is the Snickers Far West Regional Finals in Honolulu in early March. Should the team win at that time, then it would compete in Albuquerque, N.M., to earn one of four spots in a national title tournament.
The NSA is a soccer club that promotes, develops and educates players with training programs, practices and seminars in Honolulu.
