Early Monday morning, a young man lost his life in a one-car accident on Halewili Road in Kalaheo.
A vehicle was southbound when the operator lost control and his vehicle struck some ironwood trees on the west shoulder of the highway, Kaua’i County Police reported.
Both occupants of the vehicle were ejected. One 21-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police, and the other, a 22-year-old male, was transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital for treatment. His condition was not reported.
Police didn’t release the names of the victims Monday afternoon, pending notification of next of kin.
An investigation into the incident continues.
State law prohibits the release of the injured party’s name.
