A 26-year-old woman was stabbed to death Friday afternoon, and within hours the alleged killer was discovered — a probable suicide.
Kaua`i Police Inspector Melvin Morris said the woman was stabbed “fronting Keoki’s Restaurant at the Kiahune Plantation (Poi`pu).” The call came into Kaua`i Police Dispatch at 1:55 p.m., and the victim was transported to hospital by medical units.
The victim was pronounced dead at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at 3 p.m., slightly more than an hour after the fatal assault took place.
Morris first announced there was an all-points bulletin out for the male suspect, who he said was known to police officers.
But within an hour, the alleged suspect — a 32-year-old man — was discovered in the Kaumakani Beach area.
He had apparently hanged himself, according to police.
Morris said both the killer and the victim were locals who knew each other prior to the apparent murder-suicide.
Both names were being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.
