SPECIAL TO TGI
Kaua’i Food Bank and Tyson Foods Hawai’i are joining to help local families,
including those affected by the Amfac Sugar Kaua’i layoffs.
For most of
November, Tyson will donate two pounds of chicken thighs to the food bank for
every pound of Tyson chicken purchased at participating stores on Kaua’i.
“It’s a really great feeling to be able to give back to our local
community,” said Butch Wilson, Tyson Foods’ regional manager in Hawai’i.
“Whenever we have the opportunity to do so, we will.”
Stores participating
in the program are Big Save, Sueoka, Ishihara Market and Kojima.
Judy
Lenthall, executive director of the food bank, said the organization hopes “the
community can help us make a difference.”
The donated chicken will be
included in holiday food baskets distributed before Thanksgiving.
Tyson
Foods, founded in 1935, does more than $7 billion of business a year in the
producing and marketing of chicken and poultry-based food products. The company
is headquartered in Springdale, Ark.
The food bank serves Kaua’i through
more than 100 non-profit agencies or churches. About 5,000 people receive food
each month.
