Last Saturday morning’s rain clouds failed to discourage the 550 Kauaians from
doing a good deed in United Way’s annual walkathon around Kukui Grove Shopping
Center.
Some turned the event into a personal testimonial for physical
fitness by running. It didn’t matter how they got around, though, just that
they did. The event generated $30,000 in pledges that will help United Way on
its way to a goal of raising $550,000 this year for 25 deserving, non-profit
community organizations that provide invaluable social services to the island’s
inhabitants with the financial assistance of United Way funding.
The
sponsoring King Auto Center and the volunteers who helped stage the walkathon,
the supporters who made financial pledges, and of course the walkers themselves
combined to make sure that Saturday was a day when nothing could rain on United
Way’s parade.
