The Hawai’i chapter of the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) is
concerned that recent airline delays, canceled flights, missed connections and
lack of updated flight information will be considered an “unusual occurrence,”
and consequently not get the attention needed to correct these situations.
Local travel agents think the problems experienced this summer are serious, and
cost travelers time and money.
The U.S. Department of Transportation is
presently reviewing the problems experienced by travelers this summer, but is
relying mostly on information received from airlines rather than the traveling
public. So the Hawai’i ASTA members are including postage-paid questionnaires
sent out to their clients with travel documents, and are compiling responses to
submit to the U.S. Department of Transportation. For more information, please
call Sharon Lester, Hawai’i chapter ASTA president, 1-808-526-2611, ext.
