Governor Ben Cayetano and Hawaii’s congressional delegation are justifiably
proud of the $8.4 million federal grant announced this week for state programs
to prevent substance abuse among children.
Cayetano and other state
officials hail the money – to be distributed statewide to 20 community-based
programs – as a much-needed financial backbone. Among other things, the
programs will be able to track the success of their efforts.
In steering
the grant money this way, Sens. Daniel Inouye and Daniel Akaka and Reps. Patsy
Mink and Neil Abercrombie did their jobs at the federal level so that anti-drug
programs can do their jobs here.
