There has been very little in the paper about the impending sale of Mahaulepu
to an Oahu development company. We are pleased that Grove Farm, with its
financial problems, has been able to make such a timely sale, but are extremely
disheartened to lose Grove Farm as a steward of the area.
Now that it
probably will be owned by a development company, it is important that the
community, the Kaua’i County Council and the Planning Commission assure us that
no rezoning will be done there. The area is too important for recreation,
beauty, fishing, as a habitat for endangered species, a place of importance to
the Hawaiian people and as an archeological research area to allow it to be
ruined by development. I hope the community will be diligent in overseeing this
process of change.
