Voluntary water conservation in the Kilauea area continued Thursday as Kaua’i
County Department of Water officials struggled with a balky well pump.
An
electrical problem idled one of the wells supplying Kilauea, Waipaki and
Kalihiwai before being fixed late yesterday. While another well was in
operation and water was “available for all necessary purposes,” conservation
helped the department meet water consumption demands, said Ernest Lau,
manager.
Lau said full service would be restored as soon as the faulty pump
motor was repaired.
