Firehouse thievery

So it’s come to this: Firefighters rush out to douse a brush fire, then return

to find someone took their wallets.

That’s what happened Sept. 6 to Kauai’s

firefighters based at the Waimea station. Officials believe the blaze near

Russian Fort was set intentionally as a diversion, with thieves waiting until

the firefighters left and then ripping them off.

That’s cold. And downright

unfair, not that other crimes aren’t. What’s next for these burglars: Tricking

schoolchildren out of their lunch money? Yelling fire in a theater and then

raiding the concession stand?

If the firehouse thieves are caught, make

them wash firetrucks every day for a year-with their toothbrushes.
