After seeing the Kaua’i County Council public hearing on Sept. 6, I feel must write to the paper. At public hearings, most of the council members are respectful and polite to the public who take time to appear before them.
After seeing the Kaua’i County Council public hearing on Sept. 6, I feel must
write to the paper.
At public hearings, most of the council members are
respectful and polite to the public who take time to appear before them. But I
must object to the treatment of one person who spoke before the council.
A
woman testified about the development on the west side in a quiet and
respectful manner. During the question period after her testimony, Councilman
Billy Swain interrogated this private citizen on personal matters that had
nothing to do with the subject of the hearing and were completely inappropriate
and uncalled for.
This is not the first time he has acted this way. Do we
want our council to include a member who does not regard with respect all those
who testify before the council?
