As a concerned senior citizen I am finding it hard to understand what is going
on here on our beautiful island.
I have lived here for 20 plus years,
paying my taxes, serving the community in various positions at county and state
levels attempting to be an active and concerned individual on Kaua’i. With the
recent murders and attacks on women we have to get more involved in just what
is happening to you and to me and our family.
Several weeks ago while out
for an early evening walk, my daughter and I were accosted on a public street
by an extremely dangerous and angry man who apparently mistook us for someone
who had called the police on his barking dog. He was full of nothing but poor
manners and a mouth of four-letter words telling us “xxx-ooo haoles” to go
home.
Well, since this is and has been my home, I informed him of this
along with asking him if he would kindly watch his use of the letter words. I
wasn’t too sure what might develop so I took out my cell phone and informed
this individual, who claimed he was a 100 percent Hawaiian, that I was calling
the police. He did retreat to his parked pick-up truck in the middle of the
street still shouting nasty words at us.
Sure, he had too much to drink and
most likely was high on drugs. But the fact remains he appeared mad enough to
kill and this was all directed at my daughter and myself. What might have
happened if this was my daughter alone – if I had not informed him I had had
enough and was calling the police? Sure I did file a complaint with the police
but I guess this is going on now and I guess their hands are tied unless they
are on the spot (when the incident occurs).
As a combat veteran of two
major wars, I find myself in the position of once again having to have means to
protect my family when I take my walks. I might say this is the first time
anything of this nature has happened to us in all these years.
This
individual is a threat to society and mankind. I also believe that he would not
be an individual the various Hawaiian groups seeking their rights would want on
their side as he is a walking time bomb waiting to blow everyone to bits who
crosses his path. As I hope the police and FBI get the killer of these women
soon I wish they might put a saddle on this guy and his anger and hate for
“haoles.” I don’t believe we need this on Kaua’i.
