POIPU-The Koloa Plantation Days Rodeo will feature two days of rodeo
competition to kick off the annual Koloa Plantation Days celebration at CJM
Country Stables’ Arena in Poipu starting Friday night, July 21 with Slack Dally
Roping.
With no other rodeo scheduled within the state circuit, a large
slate of off-island cowboy and cowgirl competitors are expected to compete with
Kaua`i’s contingent for championship buckles in events such as barrel racing,
saddle broncs, bull riding, mugging, Open team roping, steer undecorating,
breakaway roping, and the uniquely Hawaiian Poo Wai ‘U.
The Grand Entry is
scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on each day.
Sam Viverios, Maui’s rodeo announcer,
will be featured as the voice of the rodeo for the two days of competition that
will also feature “the biggest bucking broncos from the Big Island, and
the finest bull fighters from O`ahu.
As Kaua`i’s only Hawai`i Rodeo Cowboys
Association (HRCA) sanctioned rodeo, CJM Stables will be laid out with food
booths, sundries, and will gear up to provide family fun for competitors and
spectators including Western dancing.
The rodeo is co-sponsored by the
County of Kaua`i Office of Economic Development.
Proceeds will benefit The
Kaua`i Food Bank.
