To the Forum:Re: Westside Community Meeting
I would like to thank the
Kaua’i Police Department, in particular Chief Freitas, Lt. lhu, Sgt. Paul
Kanoho and Alvin Sato as well as Detectives Bill Ching and Mel Morris for
allowing more than 100 of our Westside residents the time and place to vent our
fears and concerns about the violent and senseless events that have recently
taken place in our usually peaceful community. I went to the meeting feeling
that KPD should be more sensitive to a community in crisis and at least be more
visible, providing us with information to help stop all the gossip, rumors and
“theory” sharing by those, very vocal members of the community, not involved in
the investigations.
I came away from the meeting knowing that we have a
police force that is professional, thorough and sincerely caring. One that is
willing to “go the extra mile to preserve the integrity of an investigation as
well as assuring the rights and respect of the victims in spite of the
tremendous pressure to “arrest the guys.” I would also like to thank Roy Asher,
Sam Sheldon and Marvin Rivera for their professionalism and diligence. KPD
offered us some basic advice to help keep ourselves, our families and our
community safe and protected. I hope everyone was
listening.
Respectfully,
