Asuncion Gaoiran Vermudez
Asuncion Gaoiran Vermudez of Kekaha died June 7, 2000, at Queen’s Hospital at the age of 47.
A pantry helper for Sheraton Kaua’i Resort, she was born Aug. 15, 1952, in Laoag City, Philippines.
She is survived by her husband: Rafael Vermudez of Kekaha; two brothers: Jose Gaoiran and Fred Gaoiran; five sisters: Lolita Aguiran, Persing Gaoiran, Fely Salvador, Procing Gaoiran, and Maria Gapasen; nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may call on Friday, June 23, at Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary Chapel in Koloa from 6 p.m to 9 p.m. and again on Saturday, June 24, at St. Theresa’s Church in Kekaha from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. where services will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kekaha Public Cemetery.

Harry Poe Kaneholani
Harry Poe Kaneholani of Anahola died June 18, 2000, at his home in Anahola at the age of 51. A fisherman, he was born Jan. 26, 1949, in Waianae, O’ahu.
He is survived by his wife: Georgina Ramos Kaneholani of Anahola; one daughter: Elizabeth (Keanu) Kaneholani of Anahola; two sons: Harry Kaneholani, Jr. and Macky Kaneholani, both of Anahola; two hanai sons: Christopher and Paul Champol of Anahola; three grandsons; Evan Hurd, Kory Kaneholani-Davis and Naleo Kaneholani-Davis; his mother-in-law: Carol Ramos of Honolulu; nine brothers: David (Charlotte) Kaneholani, Daniel (Eva) Kaneholani, John (Leila) Kaneholani, Billy Kaneholani, Herbert Kaneholani, and Clement Kaneholani, all of Anahola, Jerry (Noreen) Kaneholani and George (Cheryl) Kaneholani, both of Kapa’a, and Tatiana Kaneholani of California; five sisters: Olinda (York) Higashi, Miriam Kupihea, and Mary (Gregory) Sanay, all of Anahola; and Midge (Blackie) Asai and Olandra Kaleiohi, both of Kapa’a; numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Jiro Okamoto of Wailua died June 16, 2000, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 83.
A chef for Coco Palms, he was born Nov. 20, 1916, in Puna, HI.
He is survived by his wife: Mildred Yoshina Okamoto of Wailua; three sons: Alan Okamoto of Hawaii, Brian Okamoto of Wailua and Charles (Nellie) Okamoto; one daughter: Grace (Thomas) Yamashita of O’ahu; two brothers: Noboru “Lefty” (Helen) Okamoto of Wailua and Hidemi (Sally) Okamoto of Kealia; one sister: Miyoko Kimura of O’ahu; and seven grandchildren.
Family and friends may call on Monday, June 26, at Kapa’a Hongwanji Church from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. where services will be at 10 a.m. with cremation to follow.

Florence Haruko Valpoon
Florence Haruko Valpoon of Anahola died June 18, 2000, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 78. A farmer, she was born Aug. 14, 1921, in Hilo, Hawaii.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Amil Richard Valpoon Sr., and is survived by three daughters: Marie (John) Leekley of Wisconsin, Karen Valpoon of Anahola and Debbie Coleman of Anahola; one son: Amil “Tinoa” (Beverly) Valpoon, Jr. of Anahola and one brother: Archie (Dolores) Soken of O’ahu; six grandchildren: Amil Ekolu Valpoon of Hanalei, Carla, Michael and Travis Coleman, KJ & Tracy Leekley and three great grandchildren: Teeana and Cody Valpoon and Kekai Pletteplace.
Friends and famly may call on Thursday, June 22, at Koolau Hui’ia Church in Anahola from 10 a.m. where services will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Burial to follow at the church cemetery.

Pedro Ramos “Pete” Baniaga
Pedro Ramos “Pete” Baniaga, of Kaumakani, Kauai, died at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital on June 18, 2000, at the age of 85.
Born in Dingras, Ilo cos Norte, Philippines on Oct. 21, 1914, he was a retired Loading Machine Operator with Olokele Sugar Co., also a member of the Kaumakani Senior Citizens Club, member and officer of the ILWU Unit 3105 Olokele Sugar Co., Coach for Unit 3105 Fastpitch Softball Team and Kaumakani Fil-Am Softball Team.
He is survived by: his wife: Consuelo “Connie” Baniaga of Kaumakani, Kauai; one son: Patrick (Suku) Baniaga of Kaumakani, Kauai; one daughter: Marianne (Mark) Upward of Vermillion, South Dakota; grandchildren: Pedryn Sanoe Baniaga, Patrick Apolonio Baniaga, Teisha Terril Upward, Terri Lynn Upward, Tyra Leianne Upuward, and Tristen Malia Upward; five brothers: Francisco Baniaga of Kaumakani, Kauai, Segundo (Angeline) Baniaga of Eleele, Kauai, Genofre Baniaga of Waipahu, Oahu, Lauro Baniaga and Emillio Baniaga, both of the Philippines; four sisters: Petra Valencia of Philippines, Francisca Gallegos and Helen (Bonifacio) Ramos, both of Waipahu, Oahu, and Pacita (Demetrio) Alonso of Philippines; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 24, at the West Kauai United Methodist Church, Kaumakani; service to begin at 11 a.m. followed by burial at the Hanapepe Public Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.

Yukie S. Isonaga, of Poipu, Kauai, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on June 9, 2000, at the age of 83.
Born in Koloa, Kauai on Jan. 3, 1917, she is survived by: her husband: Kokichi Isonaga of Poipu, Kauai; one son: Eric Isonaga of Lawai, Kauai; two daughters: Irene Isonaga of Gardena, Calif., and Lorna (Stanley) Kapahu of Honolulu, Oahu; three grandchildren; one brother: Jenichi (Patsy) Shigematsu of Koloa, Kauai; three sisters: Satomi Nakasone of Torrance, Calif., Alice Okuma of Aiea, Oahu, and Tamino Ahn of Lihue, Kauai; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
