HONOLULU—The Leilehua Mules rallied behind Sequoya Stokes in a decisive third
quarter to defeat KIF champion Kapa`a, 45-34, in Friday’s consolation semifinal
of the 2000 HHSAA Girls State Basketball Championship at the Stan Sheriff
Center on the campus of the University of Hawai`i at Manoa.
Stokes, a
6-foot sophomore, ignited for 10 of her game-high 17 points in the third
quarter as the Mules outscored the Lady Warriors 15-8, after trailing by two at
the half. She also had a game-high 16 rebounds.
Leilehua, who out-rebounded
the Warriors 51-29, pulled away in the final quarter.
Kapa`a’s Jordyn
Danner led all scorers with 20 points, giving the Lady Warriors a 2-point
halftime lead with a 16-point first-half scoring performance.
Kapa`a,
entering the state tournament unbeaten in regular-season play finished with an
8-2 record.
