LIHU`E – Kapa`a’s Justin Thomas who held a one-stroke lead at the end of the
first round at the David Ishii Boys State Golf championships, could not repeat
his performance at the Kaua`i Lagoons Mokihana Golf Course in Day Two, ending
the day with a six-over 78 to slip into a three-way tie for eighth place with
Blaine Lee of Pearl City and Christian Akau of Kamehameha.
Waiakea’s Ryan
Masuda fired the day’s best round, a three-under-par 69, to edge teammate
Gabriel Wilson by one stroke to win the state championships.
Masuda’s score
of 141 (-3) is one stroke better than Wilson who closed the second round with a
one under 71.
Kaua`i High School’s Kurt Inouye, carding a one-over 73 in
the second round, ended tied with St. Anthony’s Chaz Inouye at 147. Casey
Watabu shot a second-day 75 to end one back of Thomas at 148.
Kaua`i High
School’s team, chasing the lead by five strokes at the end of day one, ended
the tournament in third place, closing the tournament with a 612 total, over
Waiakea who repeated as the team champions with a 601 total.
