I have been a Volunteer Guardian Ad Litem with the Fifth Circuit, Family Court
for almost 15 years. My responsibility is to be an advocate for minor children
who have been neglected or abused.
But recently one of my cases has had a
happy ending.
This young lady lives in a good foster home, has just turned
18 and will be graduating from high school in June.
I contacted the Friends
of the Children’s Advocacy Center, a non-profit organization, and requested
Financial Assistance for her graduation and prom expenses. They awarded this
young lady all her graduation expenses and the cost of the prom gown, shoes and
accessories.
At Liberty House the Personal Shopper, Diane Melchor and Store
Manager, Stephanie Chirreck were a great help. They both assisted in picking
out her prom dress, shoes, hose, earrings, evening bag and allowed a few
discounts to equal the award received.
Diane Melchor, Personal Shopper
contacted Sher Morioka at the beauty salon at Liberty House. Sher agreed to
style the girls hair free of charge on prom day.
These are extra acts of
kindness that are appreciated to make graduation and prom night a happy
event.
This young lady will be attending Kaua’i Community College in the
Fall of 2000 as she had great ambitions to get a useful education.
I wish
to thank the Friends of the Children’s Advocacy Center, Stephanie Chirreck,
Manager, Diane Melchor, Personal Shopper and Sher Morioka, Hair Stylist at
Liberty House for their kind actions and generous help for this young lady.
