I am tired of reading the anti-fluoridation propaganda in the paper. The
promotion of this unscientific information that the self-proclaimed green
economist and political activist are passing around is deplorable.
Using a
search engine on the Internet and claiming the information as credible
scientific research is about as reliable as saying click your heels three times
and Dorothy you’ll go back to Kansas.
Anyone can post a web page and say
anything they want even if it’s totally false. Why the newspaper continues to
print this drivel is beyond me.
Water fluoridation is safe and effective
for the prevention of tooth decay. It is the one tool we don’t use on Kaua’i to
help fight the spread of this oral disease affecting our children. That’s
right, tooth decay is a disease.
I say it’s about time that we started
fighting the disease that our children are suffering from and stop whining and
complaining that our rights are being eroded.
The fact is that our
children need our help.
We have been trying to stop the spread of disease
by the traditional prevention methods of education, providing dental care to
the underserved, and promoting good oral hygiene, but it has only made a dent
in the overall problem.
Water fluoridation is yet another way that we can
make a bigger dent. We know it’s safe and effective as many communities across
the country have been doing it since the 1950’s.
This is not about us, but
our kids. Let’s do it for them—they need us.
