Don’t open floodgates to Westside tourism
To the Forum:
Regarding the
General Plan Update, I am opposed to Kikiaola Land Company’s plan to rezone
more than 100 acres of agricultural land near Waimea to
resort.
Historically, in past General Plans, Kaua’i’s Westside has been
deliberately set aside as rural while Po’ipu, Kapa’a and Princeville has been
zoned as resort.
If you allow Kikiaola Land Company to rezone their lands
to resort, thousands of tourists will inundate Kekaha and Waimea every day.
Some of these tourists will stay overnight on the Westside, but most will come
from other areas of Kaua’i. This will destroy the rural ambiance of the
Westside.
Moreover, once you allow one company to rezone to resort, other
companies will follow suit and rezone other lands in Kekaha and Waimea and
Pakala to resort, and you’re opening the floodgates to thousands of additional
tourists. You won’t be able to stop it.
