The box score generally is the best indication of the shape a baseball or
softball game has taken.
That said, the first game of Saturday’s
doubleheader between Kapa’a and Kaua’i at Kapa’a Ball Park was altogether
whacky.
The Warriors (5-4, 2-1 second round) won 12-8, but consider this:
the Red Raiders (0-7, 0-1) scored their eight runs on just four hits. Walks and
errors accounted for many of the baserunners.
Kapa’a managed 11 hits, led
by Cherisse Labuguen’s 3-for-4 performance. She hit a home run and accounted
for three RBI.
Tiana Laranio, who picked up the win on the mound for
Kapa’a, also drove home three runs, and was 2-for-4 from the plate.
Other
Warrior RBI belonged to Kassandra Wong (2), Raveen Ornellas, Shayna Carvalho
and Jackie Alapai.
Kaua’i’s big bat belonged to Brittan Amii, who was
3-for-4 and drove in two runs.
Cecilia Quibilan was 1-for-5 and picked up
the loss.
In the second game, Kaua’ i held a 1-0 lead for a time being, but
fell in the end, 4-2.
The Warriors used three pitchers to get the job done.
Cherisse Labuguen began the game and picked up the win. Chelsea Labuguen
replaced her for two batters before Laranio finished out the game.
Facing
Quibilan again, Kapa’a managed just five hits in the second contest. Kaua’i was
only able to muster three.
Carvalho was 2-for-3 in the game. Cherisse
Labuguen recorded the Warriors’ only RBI.
Tyrene Kaluahine was 1-for-4 with
an RBI for Kaua’i. Amii picked up the other RBI.
Waimea faces Kaua’i
