On the morning of New Year’s Eve while it was dark, a thief snuck down our
driveway into our yard and stole our car. Imagine the shock when we went out to
go to work and discovered our truck was gone.
The attending police
officer was polite, professional and persistent in his recommendation that we
construct a gate and chain up our property.
“I’m a lifelong resident
here and have never lived that way,” I protested.
“Wake up and
smell the roses,” he replied, “the North Shore isn’t safe.”
As the new century begins my heart is heavy as I ponder his words. A line has
been crossed for me in my beloved Hanalei home by this violation.
Our gray
Ford ranger KRA023 is on island somewhere at the hand of thieves. I am deeply
sorry for all of us on Kaua’i that our safety is challenged as we move into the
New Year.
