LIHUE — Attorneys Kyle Smith and Gerard Jervis, who represent the Kauai’s Westside community in an ongoing lawsuit against Pioneer Hi-Bred International, have compiled a list of chemicals used by the company.
They will disclose the information during a public meeting beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday at Waimea Canyon Middle School.
Smith said he will also talk about the health risks associated with many of the chemicals used, the recent air quality study at WCMS and County Bill 2491 related to pesticides and genetically modified organisms.
“We’ll touch on the bill and explain why we think that it’s a good idea,” he said.
Smith said he views Saturday’s meeting as the main reason why many Westside residents decided to sue Pioneer in the first place.
“They want to know what chemicals are being used,” he said.
Smith and Jervis are encouraging anyone who is interested to attend the meeting, which will be held in the middle school cafeteria.
“It’s a big deal, and why not invite the rest of the community?” he said. “Otherwise it’s just our clients.”
