The show goes on all month, and the field trips start this weekend and next weekend by the Women Artists of Kauai.
The Women Artists of Kauai launched its second Open Studio Tour and Kauai Museum Preview Exhibit with a reception on Wednesday.
The first of the two weekends Open Studio Tours start Saturday and Sunday and continues next Saturday and Sunday.
“These open studio tours are really popular on the Mainland,” said Marionette Taboniar, the Women Artists of Kauai coordinator. “We have 18 participating artists. On the Mainland, there are hundreds of artists who take part in the tour.”
During the tours, 20 percent of the sales price is earmarked for the scholarship fund of the Zonta Club of Hanalei, which will also be bolstering its own efforts by hosting a Fashion and Tea event at the Princeville Golf Club Saturday.
This weekend, the Open Studio Tour goes from Lihue to Waimea from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.
During the Oct. 19 and 20 weekend, the Open Studio Tour goes from Wailua to Wainiha between 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“This format is really convenient for people wanting to see artists in their environments,” Taboniar said. “People can take in the entire tour, a part of it, or even just a select artist.”
For those who want a taste of the entire 18-artist field, the Kauai Museum has a Women Artists of Kauai wall where each participating artist has one piece on display through Oct. 31.
“The Kauai Museum show is just the appetizer, enabling the viewer to decide which artists to view better,” she said.
The Women Artists of Kauai are no strangers to helping community nonprofit organizations, doing regular tours through the National Tropical Botanical Garden and the Hanapepe United Church of Christ as fundraisers.
“We just like to create,” said Helen Turner, participating artist. “If we can help someone, that’s great. But we just like to create. We’re artists.”
Participating artists include Rhonda Forsberg, Donia Lilly, Ibbie Alshamma, Dawn Lundquist, Carol Diane Bevis, Leslie Hagen, Suzy Staulz, Keani Andrade, Patrice Pendarvis, Debbie Barklow, Caylin Spear, Lannie Boesiger, Anna Skaradzinska, R. Eve Solomon, Kathleen Bryan, Angela Headley, Turner, and Taboiar.
