Sometimes, it’s the youngest who must rely on their community not just for gifts on Christmas, but living each day. One-year-old Kate was born with a medical condition that has affected her health and development and she recently had surgery.

One-year-old Kate was born with a medical condition that has affected her health and development and she recently had surgery. Her mother is working and going to school to make a better life for the both of them. They recently lost their housing but found something else. It has been a stressful time for them.
Ron, 2, lives with his parents and siblings. He is not talking as much as he supposed to so he’s receiving speech therapy from Easter Seals. He’s been making progress but he could really benefit from some educational toys and books that would provide him encouragement.
Kate and Ron are some of those who will receive assistance through The Garden Island/Zonta Christmas Fund.
The Garden Island encourages individuals, families, clubs, schools and businesses to rally behind the Christmas Fund.
Each donated dollar is carefully recorded, accounted for and spent wisely. Anyone making a donation of $500 or more can have their picture presenting the check published in TGI.
Donations will be distributed by Zonta Club members, who purchase gift certificates at appropriate businesses to help make wishes come true.
Only monetary donations can be accepted. Checks, payable to Zonta Club of Kauai Foundation, can be mailed to P.O. Box 3032, Lihue, HI., 96766.

Broken walker needs fixing
Betty is 90 years old. She has completely lost sight in one eye and has a very difficult time hearing. Betty lives alone and has been living on a fixed income. She wants to be independent, but is struggling to afford the food she needs. She also fell recently due to the brakes on her walker no longer working. In fact, she has been using a rolling chair to get around in her house, which is dangerous to do. Betty could use a new walker and some help to purchase food.
New father struggling
Zachary has just become a new father of a baby girl. He has limited contact with the baby and the baby’s mother and has been in jail for various offenses. He lives in a clean and sober house and is struggling with the daily issues of what he has gone through the past few years. He is working toward being able to provide for his daughter. He would like to be able to buy the baby the items she needs and is currently looking for employment.
Starting over
Mark has had to move to Kauai from the Mainland to try to make a new life for himself. By doing so, he has had to separate himself from his family. He has a daughter with whom he has no contact at this time. His wife has filed for divorce and he is just reeling from the fact that his bad choices are catching up with him. He has moved into a clean and sober house and is doing well but is having a hard time finding work. He could use some new clothing and shoes. He would love to have a chance to buy himself his very own pillow and blanket. He is working on getting back into school.
