KAPAA — Analeigha Carvalho-Toloai powered four hits and seven RBIs to lead the Kapaa Warriors to a 14-4 win over Kauai High School Wednesday afternoon at the Kapaa High School softball facility.
The win sets up a critical date Saturday when Kauai High School faces the Waimea Menehune in a twin bill at Isenberg Park starting at 10 a.m. where first round supremacy could be at stake.
Kapaa jumped to the lead in the first inning, answering a run by Kauai High School, and stayed in the lead for the remainder of the game, exploding for seven runs on four hits in the fourth inning. Kalia Kaui, handling the pitching chores for Kapaa, picked up a solid win on the mound, holding the Red Raiders to its four runs on five hits while striking out four Raider batters, two going down in the sixth inning.
Carvalho-Toloai, in leading Kapaa, was a perfect 4-for-4 in the box, connecting for doubles in all of her at-bats.
She was joined by Jordan Lopez, who finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and scoring once. Kaui, in addition to handling the mound, finished with two RBIs on no hits, but two fielder’s choices.
Other Warriors adding to the win included Anuhea Huddy, Kailana Kaiminaauao, and Kelsie Gorospe-Keliipuleole, each finishing with a hit and an RBI. Tyra Alao and Alia Cummings each singled.
Kauai bats were led by Cailey Caires whacking an RBI triple, which scored Chase Tokita in the fourth inning. Caires scored on Kahela Nishikawa-Chandler’s bunt single with two away in the fourth.
Joining Nishikawa-Chandler with an RBI, Tokita finished with an RBI single. Pitcher Kailee Nii suffered the loss, but had an RBI in the opening frame when she got aboard on a Kapaa error.
Alegha “Red” Scovel and Shanie Quereto each singled.
