Frances Madrid
Frances Caroline Smith Wunschel Madrid of Kapaa, Kauai, Hawaii, passed away on May 28, 2014 at the age of 90. Born on May 8, 1924 Hanamaulu, Kauai, she was a housewife.
Preceded in death by her husbands, Samuel Andrew Wunschel, Mauro Madrid; Sisters, Luella Kelekoma, Nora Rodrigues Amorin, Margie Marciel.
She is survived by her children: Andrew Wunschel, Helen (Alfred) Aki, Sandra (Bully Aki) Wunschel, Timothy (Lola Rodriguev) Wunschel, Sammie Wunschel, Mauro (Rosita) Madrid Jr.; 16 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday June 14, 2014 at 9-10 am visitation, Mass at 10:30 am at St. Catherine’s Church Kapaa, Kauai. Private burial to follow.

Ken Dorland
Ken L. Dorland passed away on May 26, 2014, in Honolulu. Born in Aberdeen, Washington, in 1937. He and his wife Chris first came to Hawaii in 1981 and stayed for 5 years before returning to the mainland to live until retirement. Ken always had a sense of wanderlust and never stayed in one place too long—the longest being Fairbanks, Alaska, where he retired as the IT manager for the City of Fairbanks. He and his wife returned to Kauai to stay on January 1, 2000. He always loved living near the water and the leisure life that Kauai offered.
He is survived by his wife, Christine, sisters Maxine Barnette (Jacke) and Barbara White of Olympia, WA, brother Guy Dorland (Diane) of Olympia, WA, daughter Marcie Moores (Michael) of Lacey, WA, son Mark Dorland (Kathie) of North Pole AK, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will take place on Sunday, June 8, at the Nawiliwili Yacht Club at 5:00, a potluck to follow. Aloha wear is requested. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Doctors Without Borders.
Juan Rabasa
Juan “Johnny” Rabasa of Lihue passed away in Wilcox Memorial Hospital on June 3, 2014, at the age of 78. He was born in Wailuku, Maui on July 13, 1935, a Veteran of the United States Army; he retired from the United States Postal Service as Postmaster of Kaumakani Post Office.
He is survived by his wife, Minako Rabasa; one daughter, Shirley Dennis of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two sons, John (Anne) Rabasa of Santa Clara, California and Jimmy Rabasa of Lihue; five grandchildren, Rachelle Colston, Thalia (Keenan) Edwards, Michael (Lianne) Dennis, Savannah Rabasa, Donovan Rabasa; 7 great-grandchildren; one brother, Pete Rabasa of Wailuku, Maui; two sisters, Tina (Joe) Brun of Koloa, Pauline Ibia of Hanamaulu; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, June 13, 2014, at Immaculate Conception Church with viewing from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe.

Walter Chung
Walter Edward Chung died on May 30, 2014 at Wilcox Hospital at the age of 74. Born November 22, 1939, in Waimea, Kauai. Walter spent his early years proudly serving our country in Korea, Germany and Vietnam gaining him numerous badges and medals including the Bronze Star. Upon returning to Kauai he worked for and retired from the County of Kauai, Public Works at Hanalei Base Yard.
He is survived by his children, Kathryn Frances (William) Violette of Kapaa, Pamela Evalani (Scott) Bodlovick of Westbrook, Maine and son, Vance Akana (Kelly) Chung of Port Charlotte, Florida. Sisters, Winona Hussey and Kuulei Augustine of Oahu and, brother, Dexter Chung of Anahola. Grandchildren, Jacob and Ashley Bodlovick of Westbrook Maine, Courtney Violette of Windham Maine and Blake, Cassandra and Abigail Chung of Port Charlotte, Florida. Caretaker and mother of beloved nephew Payton, Maile Bryan of Kapaa, best friends, Ron and Audrey Venneman of Haena, and numerous step-siblings, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Walter was predeceased by his parents Walter Chung and Adeline Wong, brother Milton Chung and two nephews, Payton Bryan-Chung and Shannon Hussey.
Services will be held, Sunday, June 15, at the Kauai Veterans Center from 11:00 – 3:00 with Military Honors starting promptly at 11:00 and services to begin at 11:15. Lunch and fellowship to follow. Family burial to follow at a later date.

Itsue Kaui
Itsue Kawaguchi Kaui of Anahola, Kauai passed away in Wilcox Memorial Hospital on June 2, 2014, at the age of 85. She was born in Kealia, Kauai on February 7, 1929, and retired as a PBX Switchboard Operator at Coco Palms Hotel.
Preceded in death by her husband, Wilfred Kaui Sr.; parents, Tsurumatsu Kawaguchi and Michiyo Hachikubo Horton; brothers, Katsuyasu “Larry” and Sueo Kawaguchi; sisters, Tokiko Ruth Medeiros, Tomiko Thelma Jay.
She is survived by daughters, Sheila Kaui Davis of Anahola, Cynthia (Bill) Rapozo of Wailua Homesteads, Carolyn (Everett) Ferreira of Maui, Corinne (Martin) Curnan of Lihue and Claire Kaui of Honolulu; sons, Wilfred (Cynthia) Kaui Jr. of Waimea, Kent (Margarite) Kaui of Kapaa, Wesley Bruce (Trinette) Kaui of Wailua Homesteads, Clyde (Darlene) Kaui of Hanamaulu, Steven (Tamlyn) Kaui of Wailua Homesteads and Keith (Liz) Kaui of San Diego, 29 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren; brothers, George Kawaguchi of California, William Horton of Honolulu; sisters, Nobuko Victoria Spencer of Honolulu, Fujiko Louise Ebesu of Honolulu; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services are being held on Saturday, June 14, 2014 with burial to follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Robert Sato
Robert “Bob” Sato of Kalaheo, Kauai, Hawaii, passed away at home on June 2, 2014 at the age of 68. Born on February 28, 1946 on Oahu, he was the Founder of Kauai Classic Foundation and Future for Youth.
Preceded in death by his parents, Robert Sr. (Ruth) Sato; sister, Lillian Sato.
He is survived by sons, Scott (Andrea) Sato, Billy Grace, 4 grandchildren And numerous friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday June 11, 2014 at Poipu Beach Park. Gathering at 5:00 P.M. Paddle out to follow.

Thomas Hashimoto
Thomas Kaina Hideo Hashimoto of Hanalei passed away on June 2, 2014 at Highline Medical Center at age 41. Born on March 13, 1973 in Lihue, Kauai, he was a flight attendant with OMNI Airlines.
He is survived by his parents, Wanda Hashimoto and Joseph Hashimoto, grandfather, Hideo Robert Watari and grandmother, Elaine Setsuko Watari, all of Hanalei. Also surviving are numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on June 21, 2014, from 9 to 11 am, at Wai’oli Hui’ia Church in Hanalei. Services will begin at 11:00 am. Cremation to follow.
Casual attire is suggested and flowers are welcome.

Felipa Castillo
Felipa Santos Castillo of Eleele, Kauai, passed away on June 2, 2014 at her home at the age of 94. Born on May 24, 1920 in the Philippines she was a Homemaker.
She is survived by her Daughter in Law, Wilhelmina Castillo; her caregiver, Marcy Maluyo, 4 Grandchildren and 3 Great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, friends and family.
Friends may visit with the family on Thursday June 26, 2014 at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. and again on Friday June 27, 2014 at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo from 9:00 am to 10:15 am. Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am. Burial to follow at the Hanapepe public cemetery.

Kreighton Kondo
Kreighton Kondo of Lihue passed away on June 1, 2014 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 69.
He is survived by his brother, Emery, sisters, Elaine and Karen, and numerous nieces and cousins.
Private Services were held. No koden.

Fusae Masaki
Fusae Masaki of Lihue passed away in Regency at Puakea on May 11, 2014, at the age of 97. She was born in Lihue on May 17, 1916 and was a dedicated homemaker.
Preceded in death by her husband, George Yutaka Masaki.
She is survived by two sons, Daniel (Laverne) Masaki of California, Carl (Fanny) Masaki of Oahu; two daughters, Diane (Sidney) Hamamoto of Oahu, Susan (Douglas) Fujii of Lihue; 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Naotoshi Mikasa, John Mikasa, George Mikasa, Henry Mikasa; three sisters, Florence Iwasaki, Mitsue Ibara, Barbara Nakao; numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services were held.

Ralph Garlinghouse
Ralph Spalding Garlinghouse, age 87, died on Monday, June 2, 2014, at Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg, WI. The family will be taking their father and mother home to the island of Kauai where a celebration of their lives will occur.
