The County of Kauai will take on four additional bridge projects due to a state and federal partnership.
According to a state Department of Transportation announcement Tuesday, 11 additional statewide highway infrastructure projects were made possible is partnership with the Federal Highway Administration’s Central Federal Lands Highways Division. The projects are supplemental and include work to get some projects shovel-ready.
On Kauai there are two projects on Kaumualii Highway. The Hanapepe River bridge replacement or rehabilitation, and the Route 50, bridge rehabilitation, bridge No. 7E. The two Kuhio Highway projects include, Route 56, Mailihuna Road intersection and Kapaa Stream bridge rehabilitation and the Route 560 rehabilitation at three Wainiha Stream bridges.
“Central Federal Lands Highways Division has managed various construction phases of Saddle Road on Hawaii Island with great results,” said Ford Fuchigami, HDOT interim director. “Its enhanced role statewide will provide a valuable resource and allow us to complete more needed projects.”
The total program cost is estimated to be more than $137 million. The projects are in preliminary planning phases.
