Robert Springer, head of Island School since 1997, announced his retirement effective June 30, 2015.
“Being part of a school is a wonderful and exciting adventure,” he said in a press release. “Schools depend on the contributions of many individuals and groups whose combined ideas and efforts ensure that the services provided are effective and useful. Thanks are due to board members and donors; to spirited administrators, faculty and staff; and to curious, lively students and supportive parents and friends. In such community the future of our institution is assured.”
Over the course of Springer’s tenure, enrollment grew to 362 students. Improvements were made to the college-preparatory curriculum, the campus expanded to include more acreage and new facilities and 311 students graduated.
“Bob Springer has provided outstanding leadership to the Island School Community for the past 18 years,” said Board President Kathy Richardson. “He is highly respected by his peers and has served as a mentor to the faculty and staff. Bob’s passion for education has positively impacted the hundreds of children who have attended Island School. Bob will be sorely missed but his contributions to the growth of Island School will become his long lasting legacy. He is truly an inspirational professional.”
