LIHUE — The fugitive furloughed inmate who ran away from his transitional home was arrested Monday.
Kauai Police Department officials said officers and members of the U.S. Marshal Service Fugitive Taskforce conducted a three-day manhunt, which started over the weekend.
They located Tyson Yadao, 25, in the area of the Kainahola Road and Kawaihau Road junction in Kapahi. Yadao broke into a residence, stole a vehicle and fled the area, the county stated. Yadao was later located at a separate residence in Wailua Homesteads and arrested without incident for escape, terroristic threatening burglary and unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.
The stolen vehicle was returned to the owner.
Yadao had been on the run since fleeing adult corrections officers Aug. 5. He fled rather than return to custody at Kauai Community Correctional Center, and was on abscond status for 13 days, according to State Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Toni Schwartz.
Yadao was an extended furlough inmate, which allows him to live and work outside of the facility while living in a transitional home in Lihue. He had been sentenced to 10 years in prison for burglary and assaulting a police officer in 2010.
