Just 19 seconds separated the first and second finish boats on Thursday when the Nawiliwili Yacht Club launched its Gene Wells Memorial Series.
Fast Company, coming off a strong finish in the NYC Wahine Series, charged through the three-leg 4.71-mile course, taking advantage of the North-Northeast winds blowing between the 8 to 12-knot range.
This pushed Fast Company to a one hour, two minutes and 39 seconds elapsed sail, being challenged on the top end by Bonjolea II who finished second overall on a 1:02:58 elapsed sail.
When the PHRF correction was applied, Fast Company controlled the top spot at 1:02:45 PHRF while Bonjolea II tumbled to a 1:07:06 PHRF for fourth place.
OZone, crossing third overall on a 1:03:27 elapsed sail, corrected to 1:03:33 PHRF for third place in the class followed by Bonjolea II.
Trinity, an F-28 trimaran, slipped across the finish line on a 1:06:57 elapsed sail and corrected to 58:18 Club, nailing top honors in that class followed by Fast Co (1:01:25 Club) and Ozone (1:02:25 Club) filling in the leaderboard.
The NYC Gene Wells Memorial Series is a seven-race shoreline race series and is the final series of the NYC 2014 calendar.
The public is invited to view the races with the NYC Race Committee who will launch the second race in the series Thursday when the first flags fly from the Nawiliwili Harbor jetty wall area.
