LIHUE – Since its inception four years ago, “Fuel Your School” has helped fund 17,163 classroom projects at 3,196 schools. It’s back this year in Hawaii.
Through Oct. 31, every time a consumer purchases eight or more gallons of fuel at a participating Chevron station in Hawaii, $1 will be donated by Chevron to help fund eligible classroom projects, up to a total contribution of $350,000 in Hawaii alone.
In 2013, the donations from the drive provided $20,623 in funds to Kauai schools: Eleele Elementary School, $1,568; Elsie Wilcox Elementary School, $1204; Kapaa Elementary School, $1,777; Kapaa High School, $4,252; Kawaikini New Century Public Charter School, $1,552; Kilauea Elementary School, $1,014; Koloa Elementary School, $9,253.
Chevron encourages STEM-related projects, to help prepare students for jobs of the future.
“At Chevron, we realize the importance of a quality education for our children,” said Carina Tagupa, spokesperson for Chevron Hawaii.
Last year, Chevron helped fund projects in 110 public schools in Hawaii.
