Baseball players between 7 years old through high school are invited to participate in the third Garden Island Baseball Clinic Dec. 27 at the Hanapepe Ball Park.
The clinic, showcasing the talent of Kauai collegiate players and coaches from the University of Hawaii-Hilo Vulcans and the Hawaii Pacific University Sea Warriors, will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for players aged 7 through 14, and from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for high school players.
Coach Kirk Correa, coordinator of the third annual clinic, said there will also be Major League Baseball scouts in attendance as well as traveling team coaches Vern Ramie of ABD and Guy Ishihara of the Hawaii Elite helping out.
Special guests include Branden Kaupe of the New York Mets and Bob Campbell, a hitting instructor with more than 30 years of experience.
Collegiate players, former Kauai Interscholastic Federation standouts during their high school careers, include Bronson Aiwohi (HPU), Dallas Correa (University of the Pacific), AJ Cummings (Feather River College), Brock Ephan (Yavapai College), BJ Freitas (UHH), Nakoa Ibaan (East Los Angeles), Kalen Iwai (UHH), Taran Tani (Graceland University), Nick Tabura (Central Washington), Mikey Rita (Feather River College), Mikeo Rita (Feather River College), Micah Rita (BMCC Blue Mountain), Bryton Lumabao (Olympic College) and Turtle Kuhaulua (San Jose State).
There is an early deadline registration of Dec. 15 where participants can sign up for $5 which includes an event T-shirt and lunch or dinner.
Registration increases to $15 per player after Dec. 15. A portion of the proceeds will be presented to the Multiple Sclerosis of Hawaii.
Participants are also encouraged to bring a canned good which will be presented to the food bank during the clinic. The Garden Island Baseball Clinic Showcase is sponsored by the County of Kauai.
