The Kokee State Park Advisory Council is looking to fill three vacancies.
KSPAC member Erik Coopersmith said that in addition to the current vacancies, several more are expected in the next six months.
“One big challenge is keeping as many of the nine seats filled as possible, to get maximum community involvement, and so we can be sure to get quorums at our meetings,” Coopersmith wrote in an email. “According to Hawaii State Sunshine Laws, regardless of the number of seated members, five members (of nine seats) are required to hold a public meeting.”
Interested candidates are encouraged to attend KSPAC’s next meeting to hear about the issues the council is currently dealing with, and to find out more about the nomination process to become a member.
The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 5 at the Planning Commission/ Boards and Commissions meeting room, Moikeha 2A/2B in the county building at 4444 Rice Street in Lihue.
The council consists of nine voting members appointed to three-year terms in equal numbers by the governor, the speaker of the House of Representatives and the president of the Senate, and four ex-officio, non-voting members.
The voting members are Kauai residents who possess general knowledge of at least one of four strategic areas — education, cultural resources, the environment or native plants, animals and ecosystems.
