KALAHEO — The Kamikaze’s Blake Probasco and Micah Matsunaga set the pace in the first half when they each dropped bombs from outside the 3-point mark Tuesday night during the county’s division II youth basketball games at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Hanamaulu outscored the Kamikaze 17-16 in the second half behind treys from Tokyo Beti and Briksdale Mault, but the Kamikaze held on for a 30-24 win behind Matsunaga’s 12 points and Probasco’s 10 points.
Beti and Maulit each finished with 11 points to lead Hanamaulu.
Girls – Kauai Ballers 43, Westside 22
Mele Tafea set the pace for the Kauai Ballers with 14 points in its 43-22 win over the Westside.
Jaliyah Casem had nine points. Kayla Tangalin and Lilya Cummings each bucketed four points and a pair from Kobi Miura rounded out the victory.
Chyna Fernandez topped the Westside effort with eight points, followed by Deyshia Kenney, who had four points. Cori Burton, Braeanna Moises, Kaytlyn Butac-Kahawai and Tisha Burton each added a pair.
Girls – Team Lihue 32, Islanders 22
The Island School Islanders’ Audrey Warner had a huge 3-ball in the second period against Team Lihue when her trey at the 3:17 mark in the second period deadlocked the match, 8-8.
Led by Jaden April and Tiana Manera with four points apiece, Team Lihue held the Islanders to just a digit to lock in a 19-9 margin at the break.
Marissa Layosa, finishing with high-point honors for Team Lihue with 17, opened the second half with a trey in the fourth period, leading to the 32-22 final.
April helped the win on six points.
Warner topped the Islanders’ scoring by matching Layosa’s 17 points, followed by Alexis Warnock who added three points.
Games for the seventh and eighth grades continue at 6 tonight at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
