LIHUE — The Wilma B line sold out before the creations could make the stage Saturday night at the Kauai Marriott Resort and Beach Club.
Edie Ignacio Neumiller, of the Kauai Fashion Week Organization that put on the runway show, said a reality show star snapped up the line before anyone else had a chance to catch them during its Signature Red Carpet Event.
“Meghan King Edmonds of the ‘Real Housewives of Orange County’ is here and going to Tahiti after this stop,” Neumiller said. “She saw the Wilma B swimsuits and immediately bought everything — the whole rack. She just has to get the creations after the show.”
Neumiller said Edmonds was also scheduled to model some of the creations during the red carpet event, which went off before a standing-room only crowd of more than 400 people in the resort’s ballroom.
Juno Apalla, KFW event chair, said the new organization and show launched in 2013 want to bring out the best in Kauai fashion.
“The KFW organization believes that fashion does not dictate your social status,” Apalla said. “Fashion highlights how you articulate you — your personal fashion expression. We want you to step out of the norm.”
Kauai designers such as Gypsy Rain, featuring the work of Desirea Aguinaldo of Kahuku on Oahu, KaiKini Bikini, and Wilma B with designer Wilma Bumanglag, were joined by internationally renowned designer Louda Larrain, whose collections have been featured in the New York Times, Vogue magazine and international exhibitions.
Sha Ali Ahmad of Ahmad Couture, who founded the KFW with Marynel Valenzuela in 2013, was the design and fashion feature during the night filled with pulsating music and energetic walks on the catwalk to enthusiastic applause.
Ahmad, who works primarily in Los Angeles, New York, and Florida, has his designs worn by celebrities throughout the world, and exclusively releases his newest looks during the Kauai Fashion Weekend.
