Eunice has some strong connections because Rev. Tomo Hojo of the West Kauai Hongwanji Mission was able to get Grand Master Shouju Madoka and her daughter Anju Madoka of the Madoka no kai in Osaka, Japan, to perform a few numbers before the Madoka pair had to leave for Honolulu where they performed during the Hawaii Betsuin bon dance.
Chef Bri Borrero (between her and Chef Rafael Camarillo, the Kauai High School football food booth should be one popping place!) got to create mini manapua, meat sticks, mochi (Sharon Lasker said they were really, really good), and more special bon dance food.
Champ Ono said when they were young, they never really had time for bon dance, but now he gets to enjoy; they even had two practice sessions. Judge Alfred Laureta was out there dancing with Charlie Rebb and Gladys Okada as residents watched and enjoyed.
