LIHUE — A Koloa man faces felony charges of burglary, resisting arrest and assault of a police officer for a series of incidents on the North Shore.
Richard Isaac Leibman, 38, formerly of Hanalei, was allegedly spotted numerous times by North Shore residents in 2014 entering homes near the Princeville Golf Course, reportedly stealing food and personal possessions. He became wanted by the Kauai Police Department after failing to show up for a court hearing.
Leibman is being charged with entering a Kilauea home, without permission to do so, on Jan. 26.
According to court documents, on Feb. 15 Leibman resisted attempts by KPD Officer Kahua Akeo to arrest him, and then injured the officer. Leibman also reportedly inflicted injuries upon Officer Chantel Villatora.
Leibman is facing charges for one count of burglary in the first degree and resisting arrest, and two counts of assault against a law enforcement officer in the first degree.
A court hearing before Judge Kathleen Watanabe is scheduled June 16 at the Fifth District Court in Lihue. The hearing will be held to determine if, according to a mental examination, Leibman is competent to face trial.
