Where is Gay Wong when you need her? Chef Guy Higa of the Kauai Marriott Resort and Beach Club was working on some great Okinawa Shoyu Pork bowls, and Chef Frank Desplechin of the St. Regis Princeville was being a good neighbor, helping Mel Rapozo with a batch of burgers Saturday at the Kauai Hospice Concert in the Sky.
Kenny Ishii got a bout of the flu so missed out helping Angelo Catigay and the PIHI crew with shave ice (how come nobody said Kmart had all those patriotic clothes?), and Chuck Brady said he was the “reduction guy” for the Marriott culinary crew, which had Gerald Nakashima (gotta go check out that Saturday night Korean food) doing all kinds of things.
Jane Garma had her crew from Alaska Airlines working with the Smith’s Tropical Family Luau (Alii got to stay at home since he just got a Petco grooming). Kamika Smith said they were doing extra kalua for the past several luau to have enough for the Concert in the Sky, and Penny Vess said no matter how much Caesar salad (Tina Brun was wrapping silverware from earlier) they make, it’s not enough.
OK, time to go check out Chris Cook at the Kauai Museum this afternoon.
