PUHI — Val and Elizabeth Ako had reason to smile Thursday afternoon at the Regency at Puakea.
“What if you don’t have teeth on the bottom?” Val asked during a question-and-answer portion of the dental and oral hygiene presentation by Lihue Dental.
Dr. Terry Allen DDS, made his way through the crowded activity room and, following a quick look, said dentures could probably be made to fit Elizabeth’s lower arches, which drew a big smile from Val.
“Dr. Allen’s mother, Gloria, was a resident here for five years,” said Marilyn Allen of Lihue Dental. “He knows a lot of the residents and also the facility because we used to come here a lot for meals and to visit with Gloria.”
The staff of Lihue Dental presented “Smile, Laugh and Learn,” a free dental presentation discussing and demonstrating oral and dental hygiene.
“Do you know that flossing can increase your life span by an additional six years?” Marilyn said. “Or, how about people who have periodontal, or gum, disease double their risk to fatal heart attack?”
The free presentation, including a goodie bag containing items “to fix da mouth” as well as Halloween treats to “broke da mouth” offered tips on dental care basics.
