The effort, however, fell short as the Warriors slipped from its sixth place after two rounds to finish with a team 869 (282-299-288) despite gleaning 11 strokes off its Saturday play.
Scott Yamashita, finishing tied for 26 at 5-over par, led the Warriors’ charge with a 2-under 69 after birdies on the fourth, fifth and ninth holes. Bogeys on the opening hole and the No. 8 had Yamashita crossing at 1-under. He picked up a stroke on the 10th hole with a birdie and added another with a birdie on No. 14 before a bogey at the final hole settled him at 2-under 69 Sunday.
James Moran-Hortan, finishing the tournament tied for 9th place at 1-under, added to the team effort, finishing even par 71. Moran-Hortan was even par through the fourth hole where he picked up a birdie only to lose it on No. 5 with a bogey. He birdied No. 8 to cross 1-under and played consistently until the bogey on No. 18 trimmed him to even par.
Kauai native Justin “Pono” Tokioka, playing on the Hawaii B team which finished in 18th place at 54-over par 906 (301-313-292), finished play at 5-over 76 Sunday after a double bogey on the first hole. Tokioka birdied No. 5, but ran into bogeys on the eighth, 10th, 17th and 18th holes for his final. He ended tied for 86th place at 21-over.
Bryden Salvador, playing only in his second collegiate tournament following the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational last week, ended the tournament tied for 59th place at 12-over. He finished with a 2-under par 69, tying with Yamashita Sunday after overcoming jitters in the first holes. Bogeys on the first, second and fourth holes at the freshman from Kilauea at 2-over until he found birdies on the eighth and ninth holes to cross at 1-over. Salvador continued to find birdies on the back nine, picking up strokes on the 12th, 13th, 15th and 17th holes while encountering just one bogey on the No. 14.
No. 13 Oklahoma captured the team title at 15-under 837 followed by No. 12 Georgia finishing at 3-under 849.
