Candidates have questionable stances on military
One of the few things the current Republican presidential candidates agree on is a sense that our military is in horrible shape. They quote that we now have the fewest number of aircraft, naval ships and troops in modern history and therefore we are weak.
However, none of these candidates has served in the military at all. Trump was eligible but had a medical deferment due to a bone spur in his foot but couldn’t recall which one.
I will also add that Bernie Sanders declared himself to be a conscientious objector to avoid the draft.
One troubling thing about these candidates is that the effectiveness of a military organization today is not measured by the number of troops or aircraft or ships. It is measured by the quality and technical capability of the troops, aircraft and ships.
Those of us that have served and the current military leadership recognize this. Most of the Republican candidates want to spend trillions on the military and one wonders if this is primarily motivated by their connection with the military industrial complex.
At the same time, of course, they all want to drastically cut taxes; interesting economics. I have full confidence in our current military and I believe they are completely capable of doing their job and performing their missions.

Dog’s death could have been prevented
There should be stricter laws as a pet owner. I have lived in Hanapepe for almost 16 years, I have rescued dogs, deers, turtles, cats and goats that have gotten out of their yards.
But to raise pit bulls and not have adequate housing for them is beyond me. I am a animal lover with lots of animal in my yard. I maintain them and treat them as part of my family.
So when you hear two boy dogs fighting, it’s an awakening. One is dead, with no owners around to where a concerned neighbor is trying to track them down. I don’t understand how people want pets but they can’t even provide a safe place for them to house. I am sad, for I watched these dogs grow. I have fed them treats, and got to know them, if only their owners would have built them a kennel, this moment of death would have not occurred.
I want mandatory workshops for people who wants to buy any animal to learn and understand the true meaning of being a pet owner. I want mandatory fines taken out of their pockets to feel what their neglect feels like. This dog did not have to die the way it did.
