Happy birthday to Kauai County Councilmember Kipu Kai Kuali‘i who celebrated his special day Thursday, the same day as St. Patrick’s Day and Mayor’s Bernard Carvalho Jr.’s State of the County address (even the drizzle couldn’t dampen that event) at the Moikeha Building.
Kaleo Carvalho went crazy getting the place decorated, even getting permission to use the double- hulled canoe from the Aqua Kauai Beach Resort to nail home the mayor’s point about changing sails.
Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa made a trip here to support our mayor and got privy to meeting Leialoha Sanchez and the young leaders of the YWCA of Kauai following the address. Kudos to Chris Jensen for the live streaming of the festivities, and that was a good opportunity to check out Brylyn Aiwohi (got lehua mamo?) who will be the Miss Aloha Hula candidate for Halau Ka Lei Mokihana O Leina‘ala during the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival.
Christy Horita said she knows someone who has some real nice lehua mamo and will see if they can contact Kumu Hula Leina‘ala Pavao Jardin — there’s still time because the halau will harvest and make the lei on March 29.
