More teachers should seek website funding
Every school on Kauai (and elsewhere) has the opportunity of obtaining funds via www.donorschoose.org, a crowdfunding website. As of today, only three Kauai teachers have submitted requests for project funding. The request could be for anything from pencils to computers. It’s a simple process and the concept is even simpler. Teachers submit the requests and donors pick the project they would like to fund. Almost 100 percent of what is donated goes toward that school’s project. Teachers of Kauai, start submitting projects. Once the projects are submitted, let’s fund them so that each school can have a #bestschoolday.

Senate should refuse court nominee
At this crucial moment in our history, “We the people” should decide what type of justice is appointed to the Supreme Court. The United States Constitution sets out the framework by which justices are to be selected: (1) by the president (2) with “advice and consent” of the Senate. No vacancy can be filled without both of these two elements.
Clearly then the president can nominate, but the Senate can refuse to consent. In doing so, they will give the people the chance to have a voice, not only on our future president — but on the future of the Supreme Court.
Senators show a proper understanding of their role when they stand up for “We the People.” We must not sit idle as President Obama replaces a judge like Justice Scalia, one of the most thoughtful, clear-thinking voices advocating for restraint and solid constitutional interpretation, with a radical activist who doesn’t truly express the will of the people.
Senators have the responsibility to represent the will of their constituents; therefore, as a citizen of this great state, we will have a significant ability to affect the decision. We can all contact our senators and urge them to stand strong and protect our liberties by rejecting President Obama’s nominee and waiting until the next president is selected before filling the vacancy.

First, for your aggressive reporting on the silly secrecy of the feral cat committee meetings. Even if they are not technically a public agency, members are acting in a public advisory capacity. Member Basil Scott is right to speak out on this nonsense, which is no way to build public support.
Second, thanks for running the large easy-to-read NCAA basketball tournament brackets chart Monday. Nice touch for your sports fans, especially for a paper where space is at a premium.
