POIPU — March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month and to heighten knowledge of the second-most common form of cancer in the U.S., the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa is hosting its second Bum Run on March 12.
The fun run and walk goes about three miles around the front eight holes on Poipu Bay Golf Course. The event is not timed, kids and strollers are welcome. There will be educational aspects as well as a silent auction and prizes.
The event raises funds for organizations on Kauai by benefiting the Visitor Industry Charity Walk.
As breast cancer awareness has pink as its color, colon cancer has blue so to further the resort’s support in raising awareness about colon cancer the resort features “Blue Jean Day” where staff can wear blue jeans to work by donating $5.
“The program has been well received, colleagues love being able to wear jeans to work on occasion and guests last year had nothing but positive comments about the awareness efforts with many walking in the Bum Run,” said Diann Hartman, director of public Relations.
After two colleagues were diagnosed, the entire resort is passionate about supporting the cause to raise awareness, encourage regular screenings and know your family history.
“Last year’s Bum Run had more than 300 participants, we hope this second annual event will be a huge success as well,” Hartman said.
Registration which includes Bum Run boxer shorts, is $30 for adults, $15 for ages 6-17, kids 5 & under free. Online registration is available through March 7 on Active.com just search for “bum run” or “koloa.” Race day registration is from 3 to 3:45 p.m. at the Poipu Bay Golf Clubhouse. There is a $5 day-of-race fee. The run stars at 4 p.m.
